COUNCIL OF SAMOA.
FIRST NATIVE MEMBERS. WELCOME BY ADMINISTRATOR. APIA. June 25. At the meeting of the Legislative Council yesterday the Administrator, Sir. S. S~ Allen, welcomed the nominated native members, Malietoa and Mataafa. He said the occasion was an historic one in the life of Samoa, as it was the first time that Samoans had sat on the Council. His remarks were endorsed by all the members. One new bill, to- facilitate the Court work: in the collection.! at personal taxes, was. passed. - ■ ■ ■; Mr. Patrick Backlev Fitzherbert,. formerly of Auckland, who had been in practice as a barrister in Western Samoa, has had his ; licence cancelled, by the Administrator. Ha will leave by the Tofua ca Saturday for Auckland.
