WARSHIPS FOR BRITAIN.

THE 1930 PROGRAMME. CRUISERS AND DESTROYERS. APPROXIMATE COST . £9.000,000. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received June 26, 5.5 p.m.) British Wireless. EUGBY, Juno 25. The First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. A. V. Alexander, announced in the House of Commons to-day the Government's naval construction programme for 1930, as follows: Three cruisers, all of the 6in. gun type. A flotilla of destroyers comprising one leader and eight destroyers. Three submarines. Four sloops, one net-layer and a targettowing vessel. Supplementary estimates, said Mr. Alexander, would be introduced for the small sum required to be spent in this financial year on these vessels. They were required to replace others which would have passed the age-limit and would enable the Royal Navy to carry out its current duties in time of peace. The programme had no relation to those of other Powers. The total approximate cost would be £9,000,000.
