WEST COAST DISTRICT.; NEW AGREEMENT RATIFIED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GREYMOUTH, Thursdaj The new agreement recently made between the Coal Owners' Association and the minors' representatives t<p cover the West Coast district has now been ratified by all the unions affiliated to tha West Coast Miners' Council. There are only slight modifications of the old agreement. Clause 21, relating to the engagement of now men, has been amended in the direction desired by the miners. On the other hand, the miners have agreed that for work on Christmas Eve payment shall be at the ordinary rate, instead of at overtime rate, as nnder the old agreement, but work on that day is not to be compulsory. A new clause has been inserted governing the rate for stone dusting in mines, which provides that the rate of payment shall bo £1 per shift of seven hours, this being employment of an injurious nature. Agreements for the northern and southern mining districts have yet to be concluded, and for the former negotiations are now in progress at Auckland. According to advices .received, an amicable settlement is to be anticipated for the northern district.
