THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. LITTLE BUSINESS DONE. Business was small on the Auckland Stock Exchnngo yesterday, practically all tho sales recorded being confined to banks and insurance. Tho demand for gilt-edged investments was steady and for short-dated 4j per cont. War Bonds a shade firmer. Banks were fairly steady. Commercials of Australia had sale unaltered at 21s 3d, but offers for mora wero Id easier at 21s. A late sale on Wednesday of New Zealands was recorded at tho curront price, 58s, and further shares were sought steadily at 57s 9d. English, Scottish and Australians eased a shade, while Now South Wales were in demand 2s 6d firmer at £3B ss. In insurance South British changed hands at the easior price of 59s 6d, a fall of 6d. More were available at tho same price, with buyers offering 6d loss. Loan and agency showed little movement. Dominion Investment Bankings moved favourably and wero done Is better at 20s. Coals were slightly firmer in tone. In gas offers for Aucklands weakened, but none of tho scrip was available. Buying strength improved for Now Zealand Breweries, which wero in demand 9d dearer at 51s 3d. Sellers asked 525. Interest was weak in general investments. Colonial Sugars were a little firmer, a selling quotation of £42 15s being met with an offer of £42 7s 6d, an advance of 2s 6d. Fanners' Tradings, ex div., wero inquired for at Bs, a readjustment of lOd. The only business in the section was in British Tobaccos, which wero sold unchanged at 39s 6d, at which price more wero available. The only change in tho mining section occurred in Mount Lyells, which were wanted 3d easier at 265.
