FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA.

MATTHEWS AND lIOOK.

PROBABLE RIVAL IN AIR.

REPORT NOT VERIFIED.

By Tolegraph—Press Association—Copyright, (Received Juno 23, 5.5 p.m.)

LONDON, Juno 22,

Messrs. Matthews and Hook apparently have a rival in their attempt to lower Hinkler's record for a flight to Australia. Another young airman, N. King, in a light machine, set out from Heston aerodrome, Middlesex, soon after the other two.

Both aeroplanes landed at Marseilles and left for Rome, that of Matthews and Hook being slightly ahead. It would appear that Matthews and Hook did not realise the need for reporting themselves at foreign aerodromes. Their omission explains the lack of news from Lyons until their arrival at Marseilles, whence they loft at 11.25 a.m. yesterday for Rome. Nobody is ablo to verify the story that tho other airman, King, is also bound for Australia.
