PIANO STUDENTS.
A MODERN COMPOSER. The compositions of Cyril Scott for the piano, stringed instruments and orchestra, were dealt with by Mr. Tracy Moresby in a lecture to tho Auckland Piano Students' Association, hi the Lewis Eady building last evening. The president, Miss Joyco Parker, presided. Speaking moro particularly on Cyril Scott's compositions for tho piano, tho lecturer divided them into threo sections—pretty pieces, impressionistic pieces and tho pieces based on folk songs. These he illustrated, playing in all nine, of the composer's most known and brilliant works. A paper on the life of. Schumann was read by Miss Doris Binns, and was illustrated by Schumann's ".Romance," played by Miss W. Silver, and a duo for two pianos, " Andante and Variations," played by Miss D. Binns and Miss M. Ilewson. A brief paper on the variation form was read by Miss K. Judge and illustrated by Miss M. Clare. Beforo introducing tho speakers, Miss Parker announced that the association had been invited to jiarticipato in tho music week, which is to be held in August.
