Mrs. K. Mcintosh, of Te Kuiti, is spending a brief holiday with her sister, Mrs. 13. E. Hart, of Hartlands, 7, Ngarorna Road, Epsom.

Miss Joan Stevens, of Hamilton, sailed on Friday by the Maunganui for Sydney, en route to England, where she will go into residence, in October, as a student at Somervillo College, Oxford.

The committee of tho Woodliill Public Library held a dance in the local hall on Saturday evening to raiso funds for the library Tho Hobsonville Orchestra supplied good music. A waltzing competition was held, tho winners being Miss Hinemoa Quarrio and Mr. George Davis. Tho Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Nancy Hoist and Mr. Noel Munsford.

The monthly meeting of the Epsom branch of the League of Mothers, over which Mrs. T. 11. Macky presided, was held in the Baptist Church Hall, Inverness Avenue, on Thursday afternoon. An inspiring address on 4< Sunday Observance " was given by the Rev. W. Jellie. At tho closo of the meeting afternoon tea was served by Mesdames E. Drake and F. C. Matthews.

A danco organised by the Waimaaku Rugby Football Club 'was held in the Waimauku Coronation Hall on Saturday evening. Mr. Hattan and Mr. G. Hattan supplied the music. Novelty dances caused much amusement, the prize winners being as follows:—Monte Carlo Waltz: Miss M. Wintour and Mr. J. Gissing, 1; Mrs. C. Niecolls and Air. A. Blackwell, 2. The proceeds of the dance are to bo handed over to the church funds.

The fortnightly meeting of the Ponsonby branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in St. Stephen's Hall last week, Miss Read presiding. Mrs. Driver gave an address, her subject being " The Women of the King's Highway." The following resolution was passed by the meeting:—" We, the memoers of the Ponsonby branch of tho W.C.T.U., recommend that stricter supervision be given to cabarets and dance halls, and that a condition of licensing the same be that no person be allowed on such premises under tho influence or in possession of intoxicating liquor. Afternoon tea closed a very enjoyable afternoon.

A very pleasant occasion v.-as the At Home which was held by the Ladies' Aroha Progressive League. Mrs. Smvthe, the president, welcomed new members, and afterwards made a brief speech dealing with the aims and work of the league. Letters were received from the Hospital Auxiliary and the Protection of Women and Children Society asking the league to help with street collections. Mrs. Basil Cadoux, who four years ago had helped to form the league, was welcomed and later mado the presentation of a badge to each member. Tho president presented her with a bouquet. Afternoon tea was served and a pleasant meeting was brought to a close.
