HEAVY FALLS OF SNOW.

EXPERIENCE AT DUNEDIN.

LAWRENCE ROAD BLOCKED.

The first really rough weather of the winter broke upon Dunedin on Saturday. Snow fell in the afternoon and the night was bitterly cold. Yesterday the sun shone all the morning but the afternoon was dull and showery. Tho wind was piercing, but it moderated last night and the conditions to-day were less severe, though truly wintry. Flagstaff Hill and its neighbouring eminences are somewhat thickly coated with snow. In the country districts the snowfall was considerable. The road from Lawrence to Waipori is blocked. The postmaster at Clinton advised that there was a heavy fall of snow in that district this morning. No trouble has been encountered on the railways and no slips have been reported.

FROST AT ASHBURTON.

RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE

[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ASHBURTON, Monday,

Following a fall of snow on Saturday, when one inch was recorded in tho Ashburton borough, 23 degrees of frost were registered at Mount Somers yesterday. This is a record low temperature for the district.
