WARNING TO GIRL BY RADIO
There was ;i thrilling drama of real lifo in London from 10 o'clock to midnight on April 25. A doctor, Scotland Yard detectives, policemen, and the British Broadtasting Company combined in an effort to save a domestic servant from taking poison. They succeeded. The public first heard of tlio matter through a broadcast SOS just after 10 p.m. It said: —"I have hero an urgent messago for Miss Lehane, who is known to bo employed in Iho Victoria district of London, and who is requested not to tako the granulated powder given to her by her medical attendant in South Kensington, since an error has been made in its composition." Tho doctor had gone ijita Chelsea police station and had explained his dilemma, lie was very worried about tho possible sequel to taking the, wrong proscription, especially as ho had mislaid Miss Lehano's address. 110 suggested that a broadcast appeal should bo made, and was advised to go to (ho Broadcasting Company. The doctor raced through London to Savoy Ilill. Appreciating tho doctor's anxiety, the appeal was broadcast. As lime passed and no word of reply roached the broad casting station, anxiety was increased. Scotland Yard detectives and police ofli cors patrolling tho Victoria area started inquiries for the servant. Meanwhile tho doctor feverishly searched his surgery for a piece of paper, on which, ho recalled, ho had written Miss LehanoV address Ho found it lying on his desk. Immediately he motored to her homo and was in time (o warn tho patient not to tako tho powder.
