VALUATIONS CHALLENGED.
ASSESSMENT COURT CASES.
LARGE NUMBER OF OBJECTORS
A large number of objections to the revised valuation rolls for a portion of the Waitemata County, including the Mairetahi. Kaukapakapa, Kutneu. Pukeatua, Wainui and Birkenhead ridings, and also for portions of the New Lynn borough and the Papatoetoe town district, was heard by an Assessment Court yesterday. Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., presided, and with him were associated Mr. E. Allen, the Government assessor, Mr. H. J. McPhail, assessor for the Waitemata County. Mr. R. Wells, assessor for the New Lynn Borough, and Mr. H. G. C. Ernest, assessor for the Papatoetoe Town District. As a number of the objectors did not appear, their cases were struck out. About one half of the objections from Waitemata County land-holders were allowed with minor amendments, the valuations being sustained in the remaining cases. The majority of the valuations objected to bv New Lynn owners were sustained, and there was only one case from Papatoetoe. There were no big reductions made in valuations, and no large blocks of land were affected by the objections, the cases dealing principally with small holdings. Objections from land-holders in the Mount Albert, Devonport, Takapuna and Avondale districts will be heard to-day, and to-morrow the Court will consider applications from the Lllerslie, Onehunga and One Tree Hill districts.
