CHESS CONTEST.
INTER-CLUB GAMES,
WELLINGTON AND AUCKLAND
A telegraphic chess match between members of the Auckland and Wellington Chess Clubs has been in progress during tin; past two Saturday evenings. All games wero concluded except eight, which will lie sent to adjudication. From present indications, the final result will be a draw. Following are tho results, Wellington names being mentioned first: Pyles v. Moir. —A queen's pawn game, which was even at tho end of tho first night. In the final play Moir extricated himself from an awkward position, a draw
resulting. Anderson v. Jones. —lluy Lopez opening. Tho game was sent to adjudication with a slight, but not a losing positional, disadvantage for Jones. Mason v. Roberts. —A queen's pawn game, brilliantly won by Mason. Kelling v. Maddox.—A Bird opening. Kelling resigned when threatened with tlic loss of the queen. Mackay v. Sale. —A Bcnoni opening. Through an oversight Sale lost a pawn and was forced to resign. Craven v. Fotheringliairi.—A centre gambit. A most interesting game, won by Kotheringham. * Fouhey v. Ogle.—Sent for ad judication. Hicks v. Lees.—Queen's gambit declined. Sent for adjudication. Mediae v.. Donald.—A Bird opening. Drawn.
Pnrchas v. Coyne. —A Vienna opening Won by Purchns.
W'ighain v. Moller.—Won by Wigharn. Fail-burn v. Barker.—Barker lost the game t lirougb inadvertently misplacing one of bis opponent's moves. Sim v. Adams. —Won by Adams. •Jones v. Layland.—Layland lias a pawn and positional advantage, but tho game lias gone for adjudication. Jcssup'v. Lennard. —Sent for adjudication.
Thompson v. Gale. —Drawn. Grady v. Drott. —Sent for adjudication. Hardy v. Put man. —Hardy lost the game on tho first night, but, as this was due to a scrutineer's mistake, a drawn game was agreed upon. Kirkwood v. Koskilly.—Sent for adjudication. Hough v. Symons.—Sent for adjudication.
