CHATHAM CUP COMPETITION. THISTLE WINS LOCAL FINAL. Y.M.C.A. TEAM OUTCLASSED. The local. Chatham Cup final was decided at Blandford Park on Satnrday, when Thistle, playing its best game. to dale, had a comparatively easy win over the formidable Y.M.C.A. combination. The latter team was obviously upset by Thistle's opportunism and failed to settle down throughout tho game. Thistle showed touches of reorganisation and the changes were evidently for the better, as the side gave a really fine display notwithstanding the unfavourable condition of ground and ball. The Falcon Cup replay between Celtic and Rangers resulted in another ding-dong struggle, victory eventually going to the former by the odd goal in three. Following wero tho results of the gamos:— Thistle, 3; Y.M.C.A., 0. Celtic, 2; Rangers, 1. THISTLE TOO GOOD. Thistle led tho first attack against Y.M.C.A., with Hislop and McLeay leading. Otter and Mowat sent tho attackers back for Kay to attempt a run on the Y.M.C.A. left flank. Humphreys had a good chance of registering, but shot weakly over the bar. Y.M.C.A. auickly assumed a definite bold on the exchanges, but although swarming arqund tho Thistle goalmouth, the Y.M.C.A. vanguard failed to penetrate the atiff defence. Wright marshalled the Thistle forces in a strong retaliatory raid and Hislop let out to Dick, who in turn passed to Wilson, for the left wing to finalise a pretty movement with a strong scoring shot. Wilson raced goalwards and lobbed across a pice centre, from which Dick realised irl quick time. Y.M.C.A. showed plenty of initiative in its subsequent raids, but none of tho forwards was on the spot with his shooting. Kay almost headed a goal from a rebound, but the goalie recovered quickly and saved in' a fine manner. Thistle received a penalty kick for an infringement by Mowat, but Johnstone failed to improve on tho kick owing to a brilliant stoppage by Hilliard. Thistle came back once more before the spell, a sparkling solo run by Wilson being finalised with a brilliant shot which left Hilliard nonplussed. The half-time score was:—Thistle, 3; Y.M.C.A., 0. Thistle was intent on taking advantage of the, rattled Y.M.C.A. team and a shock raid, with Hislop prominent, marked the opening of the second half. _ Pretty footwork mado an opening for Dick who, however, ballooned tho ball over the bar. Y.M.C.A. failed to score, from a bright move originated by Chapman, the ball traversing the goalmouth without anyone taking advantage of the chance. G. Wright sent N. Cumming running on the right wing, the Thistle man side-stepping several opponents and curling in a great ahot which Hilliard only just saved by diving. Thistle was having the better of the play territorially and Hilliard was called on repeatedly to stave off fierce onslaughts from Dick and McLeay. The end came shortly afterwards with the score:—Thistle, 3; Y.M.C.A., 0. Mr. A. E. Parkinson was referee. CELTIC BEATS RANGERS. There was little to pick and choose between Celtic and Rangers when they met in the Falcon Cup replay at Blandford Park. Rangers raced to Celtic's defending area right from tho commencement of the game, but the forwards showed a lack of discrimination when facing the goal. Coyle and Robin looked dangerous in a sweeping Rangers' movement, but P. Kay relieved, and at the same time set the Celtic forwards functioning. Grimes carried on with Mclntyre and Gavin trailing in support, the latter receiving eventually to net with a snap shot. Just before tho spell-whistle Birkenhead was beautifully placed, to spnd the equaliser in past Russell, but he fumbled and the danger was averted by Grant. The half-time scoio was:—Celtic, 1; Rangers, 0. Tho first ten minutes after the resumption saw tho Rangers front-rankers swarming round the Celtic goalmouth, but, in spite of several real "sitters," Rangers could not register. Bradley put across a couple of nice centres which met an unworthy fate and then Celtic took a Turn' on attack, sweeping goalwards with rare understanding. Grimes stepped in opportunely and registered, giving Celtic a two-goals lead. Robin reduced the deficit for Rangers by beating Russell from short range, but, although Rangers strove hard to equalise, tho final whistle found the score:—Celtic, 2; Rangers,' 1. Mr. W. K. Tugby was referee. LOWER GRADE RESULTS. Senior Grade B.—Northcote, 4, Technical Old Boys, 2; Belmont, 4, Tamaki, 2; Philomel, 3. New Accord, 2; North Shore, 4, Metro-College, 2.
