UNIVERSITY APPOINTMENT.
FORMER AUCKLAND RESIDENT POSITION AT BELFAST* Private advice has been received that Mr. F. W. Baxter, an old Auckland boy, who has until recently been. lecturer in English at the University of Leeds, has been appointed to the chair of English at the University of Belfast. Mr. Baxter was a pupil of the Aucklancl Grammar School, and attended lectures at the Auckland University College until he enlisted for service overseas during the Great War. At the conclusion of the war ho won a British Expeditionary Jjorce scholarship, and proceeded to Oxford, where he graduated with first-class ST 5 n, n n Eng of h ' and also the Charles Oldham,Shakesperean scholarship. He was subsequently lecturer in English at London University and McGill Univerfa®fore accepting the position at the University of Leeds.
