DELEGATES ON TOUR.

VISIT TO LOCH LOMOND.

LONDON, June 19. When Queen Elizabeth sent Mary Queen of Scots to Coventry she was imprisoned in the armoury at St. Mary's Hall. The delegates to tho Imperial Press Conference dined yesterday evening in the great hall, which was built in 1430. Sir Edward Iliffe, of Allied Newspapers, Limited, whose guests they were, mentioned that the late Lord Northcliffo started his first paper, Answers, at Coventry. Before that he had edited bicycling papers for Sir Edward's father, at the age of 21, on a salary of £4 a week. He had never ridden a bicycle in his life. After dinner the delegates caught a night express to Scotland and arrived at, -Balloch, Dumbartonshire, for breakfast. They went by steamer up Loch Lomond, thence to Loch Katerine and on to Edinburgh. Sir Edward Iliffe visited New Zealand ■ with the Empire Press Union delegates a few years ago. Past and present Governors and other overseas administrators attended the Royal Empire Society's banquet to the delegates to the Imperial Press Conferonce at the Mayfair Hotel, over which Sir John Sandeman Allen, M.P., chairman of the society, presided. Lord Jellicoe, responding to tho toast of tho " Press and Empire," proposed by Sir John Allen, declared that the English press was a pattern to the whole world, and the New Zealand press was a pattern to tho English.
