BEST SORTS STILL FIRM. AVERAGE AND FAULTY DOWN. (Received June 19, 11,5 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 19. At the Sydney wool sales to-day the offerings comprised 9914 bales of which 8808 wcro sold. Also 777 bales were sold privately. The market had a weaker tendency with a 5 to 7| per cent, drop in prices of averago and faulty Merinos and crossbreds. However, for best descriptions of fleece the market was firm witft prices at "tho highest point of tho week. Greasy Merino sold to 17£ d. THE MARKET BASKET. RETAIL FOOD PRICES. A GUIDE TO HOUSEWIVES. A decreaso of 3d a dozen in the retail price of both hen and duck eggs is the outstanding change in food prices for the week. Both hen and duck eggs are now selling at 2s 9d a dozen. Supplies of fish arc still very short, on account of the fish being off the grounds both in tho Ilauraki Gulf and in tlje Bay of Plenty. The prices remain unchanged. There are no alterations in •tho prices of meat for tho week. Hothouse and outdoor tomatoes both show slight increases in price, the prices of other lines remaining about tho same as last week's figures. Apples, pears, oranges and mandarins are plentiful.
