A team of lady members of the Whakatane Golf Club visited Opotiki yesterday and mot a team of Opotiki Fonrbali best-ball games were _ played in tho morning, when Opotiki finished 1 up. Singles were played in the afternoon, Whakatane being 5 up. Whakiitane won the match by i up. NORTH AUCKLAND TOURNEY. QUALIFYING ROUNDS. [BY TELEGRAPH- —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Thursday. v Tho North Auokland open- amateur golf tournament was begun to-day. Heavy, rain last night made the course heavy. All the entrants were present. Play began with tho first and second qualifying rounds of the championship. There was light rain in- the and later heavy rain sot in. and continued all day, making conditions far from pleasant. Tho results were:—i-R. O Gardner, 79, 86— IGS; Dr. Buckley, 84, 82—166; A. Lamb, of Whangarci,_ the present holder of the championship, is unable to play to-jnorrow ti and so could not enter for tho championship, but playing in tho morning and afternoon rounds, he returned the excellent scores ,of 75 and 76. The trophy for the best score in the two qualifying rounds was won by R. O. Gardner, of Titirangi. The medal round in the morning resulted in a tie between T. Guerm (Kaikoho), W. Maitland (Whangarei) and A. Gillespie (Whangaroi). Tho flag match in the afternoon was won by H. Gillespie. He carried tho flag to the fairway approaching the 20tli holo._ A. Christensen. of Kaikoho, was second with a handicap of 14. Tho first round of the championship will be played to-morrow, together with a bogey handicap and a medal match.
