TWENTY-TWO PLAYERS CHOSEN.
NINE AUCKLANDERS INCLUDED
Tho New Zealand League selectors, Messrs. E. K. Asher, W. Murray, A. Ferguson, 0. Carlaw and J. K. Worrall, choso (he team to represent Now Zealand in the tour of Australia at tho conclusion of the inter-island match at Carlaw Park on Saturday. Tho combination will assemblo at Wellington and leave by the Ulimaroa on Jurio 27. Tho selected players are :
Backs.—C. Duffy (Auckland), IL Tcarce (Otago), J. Amos (Canterbury), C. Tittleton (IL'outh Auckland), E. Abbott (South Auckland), E. Meyer (Northland), M. Wetherill (Auckland), 11. Brisbane (Auckland), 1. Wateno (Auckland), S. Riley (Auckland), C. Gregory (Auckland), L. Soagar (Auckland). Forwards.—A. Eckoff (Otago), 11. Griffiths (West Coast), .7 Calder (West Coast), C. Dobbs (Canterbury), S. Clark (Auckland), T. Tirnms (South Auckland), R. Stephenson (South Auckland), R. Trautvetter (South Auckland), Len Barchard (Auckland), W. Jones (South Auckland). Should any of the above players be unable to make the tour the following have been selected as icserves:—forwards: A. Clarke (Auckland), J. O'Brien (Auckland), M. Ilobbs (Auckland). Backs: L. Simons (Wellington) and J. Dodds (Canterbury). «■ The strength of the team appears to bo in the forwards, who should do well in Australia. Several surprise inclusions are sure to give rise to comment. Riley and Seagar were not generally considered to havo much chance, especially the former, who has been far from a sound player. The inclusion of Abbott, at halfback, in preferenco to Peckham or Shortland, is perhaps tho surprise. Most of tho forwards deserve a place, but tho exclusion of Clarke, Marist, after his splendid gamo on Saturday is also a surprise. Clarke would make a much better third-row forward than Jones, South Auckland.
PLAYER'S MISFORTUNE. TRIP LOST BY ACCIDENT. A regrettable minor accident occurred in the last two minutes of the interisland League match on Saturday, when M. O'Brien, West Coast, received what is reported to be a broken bono in the leg. O'Brien played a brilliant game and was easily the best forward fur the South Island. His omission from the New Zealand team is to bo regretted, as O'Brien is the finest forward seen at Carlaw Park for some Years.
