CHARITY BY FRAUD.

POSED AS MARRIED MAN.

FOURTEEN DAYS' IMPRISONMENT.

Sentence of 14 days' imprisonment was passed on John O'Brien, who Appeared in the Police Court yesterday beforo Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., on a charge of being a roguo and vagabond. Mr. W. H. Cocker, who represented the Hospital Board, said accused applied to the board for charitable aid, representing himself as a married man with four child rcn. In reality ho was a single man, who lived with his married brother. Tho brother, who had four children, was already drawing charitable aid, and accused, by means of a false statement, succeeded in obtaining stores and money from tho board. Tho fraud was discovered and defendant then returned 23 of tho bread coupons ho had received.
