LIQUOR AT DANCES.
CONTROL OF HALL LICENCES.
RESOLUTION AT BIRKENHEAD
A communication received by the Birkenhead Borough Council last evening from tho New Zealand Grand Lodge of Good Templars stated that a resolution was passed at the biennial session calling attention to " the grave and.growing evil of allowing drinking in dance halls and cabarets in various parts of tho Dominion." Tho letter added: "In view of the peril this growing evil is creating for the young men and women, and for the boys and girls of this Dominion, who are attending theso places in ever-growing numbers, this grand lodge would urge upon your council to make full provision for such completo control over tho issue of all such licences as will prevent a continuance or recurrence of the practice of allowing drink in dance halls and cabarets under your jurisdiction."
Mr. W. B. Darlow said it would be a good thing to adopt this suggestion. On liis motion, seconded by Mr. H. A. Campbell, it was resolved to make this a condition in issuing future licences.
