HERD-TESTING WORK.

ELECTION AT MORRINSVILLE.

POSITION AS TO SUBSIDY<

[BY TELEGRAPH. —'OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

MORRINSVILLE, Wednesday

Fears that- the Government, subsidy of Is a cow to herd-testing associations might he withdrawn were expressed at the animal meetings of suppliers to the Morrinsvillo and'Kiw'itahi groups of the New Zealand Herd-testing Association by Mr. S. J. Sheaf, general manager of the association.

The subsidy, amounting to £10.500 on (lie basis of Is a cow, has been paid by iho Government for the 1927-28 and 1925-29 29 seasons, and will be paid for the 192950 season in a few months' time. Air. Sheaf said the directors of the association were of the opinion that if the subsidy was retained by the association and used for development work, such as the building up of a reserve fund and the starting of new groups, the result would he reduced charges to testers in the future.

The directors had gone so far as to draw up a reduced scale of charges this season. The subsidy would be distributed among tester's, but owing to the increase in the number of cows the amount per cow would be only about 9d or 9J<d. After a prolonged discussion the meeting decided to express its appreciation of the Government's action in making a grant to the herd-testing association, and the hope that this would continue to be paid direct' to members. Group committees , were re-elected as follows; —Morrinsville, Messrs. E. C N. Robinson, «T. A. Sanders and G. Were; Kiwitahi. Messrs. A. T. Walker, G. B. Way and R. R.' TTeaton. It was resolved, to support the proposal to make the marking of tested cows compulsory.
