BAIL NOT ALLOWED.
CHARGE AGAINST SURVEYOR.
A charge of indecently assaulting a girl aged nine years was preferred against Edward Fcnwiek Halse, aged 52, a surveyor. in tlio Police Court yesterday before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M. The. offence, was alleged to have taken place at Thames on Mav 8.
Sub-Inspector Shatiahan said that accused was released on bail, and was to have appeared at Thames on Tuesday. He wan, however, found wandering round Auckland.
Mr. Ward, who represented accused, said that accused came to Auckland t<> raise some money due to him. He. knew his solicitor was at Thames, and did not thin!; it. necessary to be there himself. The sub-inspo.'tor said that accused was committed for sentence at Rotortia recently on n similar charge, and in the meantime the second offence had occurred. Accused was remanded to appear at Thames on Friday, boil being refused.
