The Primo Minister, Mr. Mac Donald, Stated in the House of Commons to-day •that the,inquiry into the military aspects of the Channel Tunnel scherno was taken up as soon -as t'le report of the committee on the economic aspect was received and had been continued ever Since. The project as set forth in the economic report, contained a considerable amount of detail that was not available when the question was last reviewed by the Coinmitteo of Imperial Defence. It jWas fourjd necessary to rc-cxamino the i,whole mailer in the light of the latest developments, and, in order to jneet the changed conditions, new methods yhad to bo considered and worked out in [iegard to tho military and financial It would be a profound mistako to scamp this inquiry, only to find afterwards that some essential factor bearing tho final decision had been overlooked. 'As snon as the recommendations of tho committee of Imperial Defence were availal,le the entire question in all its aspects iwouid ho examined by the Government, after which an announcement of the Government's policy would be in ado in Parliament.
