UR OF THE CHALDEES.
OLD TEMPLE UNEARTHED. BUILT BY NEBUCHADNEZZAR. Tifiles Cable LONDON, May 12. The excavation of a low, inconspicuous mound at Ur of the Chaldeos in tho Inst 30 days before the closing of tho season's work revealed a temple built by King Nebuchadnezzar in 600 B.C. Apparently tho land had been reclaimed from an old harbour, as tho foundations of the temple had sunk and tho walls on one side are a-slanl. Tho temple is surprisingly well preserved.
The mud-brick walls have retained tho plaster and whitewash, but the decorations have vanished.
The building is at present 20 feet high Originally it was lofty.
