The study of criminal psychology has long had a staunch adherent in Miss Helena Normanton, the English woman barrister, who was recently appointed one of the prosecuting counsel to the British Treasury. An outstanding feature of tho Society of Women Artists' exhibition, held recently in London, was the work of Mrs. Granger-Taylor. Two of her contributions were large panels of amusing subjects, the one a motor-car breakdown by a roadside, and the other a group of women judging pictures. She looked at tho incidents with an eye to their humorous side, and turned - into serious decorative art something which approached very nearly to caricature

The president of the Mangero East Croquet Club, Mrs. E. H. Solornan, gave a very enjoyable afternoon to members at her residence, Massey Road, Mangero, on Monday.- Two rooms were thrown into one and were decorated with tho club colours. Five hundred was played, Mrs. House being the winner of the first prize, Mrs. Gunthorpe tho second and Mrs. Henwood the hidden number. After tea was served musical items were given by Mesdames Massey, Tait and Moflitt.

For the first-time a diploma in art has been awarded in Australia. The award was madp- to Miss Eileen McGrath, of Farramatta, who was a pupil of the Art. Department of the Sydney Technical College at Darlinghurst. Apart from her work exhibited at the Technical College, Miss McGrath, who specialises in sculpture, designe'd and executed the G. H. Smith Memorial Medal for the Chemical Institution, and also executed three terracotta decorations for the Callan Fark War Memorial. .

Ati appointment of interest in Anslican circles in Melbourne is that of Miss A. M. Gillespie,-who was recently mado principal of the Church of England Deaconess Institution at Newtown. An M.A. of Cambridge .University, Miss Gillespie was for four years general secretary and superintendent of tho [lanyard Mission in London, and for five years was a member of the Sotithwark Diocesan Board of Women's Work. Miss Gillespie also did social -wprk in the latter years of tho war and was lecturer for three years to exservice men who studied for university degrees with a view to becoming teachers.
