A substantial balance of £17,838 over the estimated revenue for the seven months of the financial year was reported to the Auckland Harbour Board by the treasurer and accountant, Mr. C. F. Garratt, at the meeting of the board yesterday.

"It is just as well the board has a substantial balance in hand, as thero is no doubt that a reflex of the conditions in Australia will affect us, and is affecting us," said the chairman, Mr. M. IT. Wynyard, in commenting upon the satisfactory position that was revealed. Ordinary receipts for April amounted to £36,658, an increaso of £2313 on the figures for April last year. The receipts for the seven months of the financial year to date total £24-1.045, an increaso of £12,641, as compared with the corresponding period of 1929. The revenue exceeded t!io estimates by £17,833 for the seven months, there being an excess at Waitomata of £18,461 and a deficit at Manukau of £623. Receipts at Manukau Harbour for April amounted to £4Bl, a decrease of £137, while for the seven months the revenue declined by £852. The arrivals at Auckland numbered 556 vessels, including 494 coastal vessels, a total net tonnage of 196,055 tons. Coinpared with the corresponding month of last year tho large merchant shipping showed (he same number of vessels, with an increase in the gross tonnage of 2906 and a decreaso of 2825 net tons. The local coastal vessels' return showed a decrease of 52 vessels and a decline in net tonnage of 1733 tons.
