NEW CANADIAN TARIFF.
EFFECT ON AMERICAN TRADE.
COMPETITION WITH BRITAIN.

WASHINGTON, May 12.
The Department of Commerce, in an Analysis of a new Canadian tariff, states that trade with tho United States, worth nearly £46,000,000, will be affected, adversely in most instances.
Iho department says the American producers are greatly interested in tho clauses Riving preference to British goods. Competition between import!! from Britain and the United States will be substantially increased. Arrie rican exporters of many lines will b« required to lay greater stress cn service and quality.
