ONE TREE HILL DISTRICT.
CHANGE OF NAME PROPOSED.
MAUNGAKIEKIE OR CORNWALL
A proposal that tho name of the borough of One Tree Hill should bo changed to Maungakiekie or .Cornwall was made at tho final meeting last evening of ratepayers of thp One Tree Ilill Road Board district. , * ...
It was stated thp name of One Tree Hill was one frequently given to back-block areas, and that the progress of the district called for a change of. name. The name, tho Or.e Tree Hill Borough Council, would be too long. The name of Cornwall would be particularly appropriate as tho park had been formally presented .by the present King when Duke af Cornwall and York.
Mr. R; 'G. Clark, a member of - the former .road board since 1918, said the time was opportune to consider-resurrect-ing, the name of the donor .of the park, Sir John Logan Campbell. •
A motion that the changing of the name of the disfh'cfc be a recommendation to the incoming Borough Council was lost by a large majority.
The title deed.of- Cornwall Park was formally presented, in June, 1901, by tho present King—then Duke of ' Cornwall and York—on : behalf of Dr. (afterwards Sir John) Logani Cairipbell to the people of New Zealand as a public" park. The park, was opened in August, 1903. Cornwall Park, which comprises 230 acres, includes part .of the lower slopes of One Tree Hill," but 1 does not embrace the summit, which" is in the One' Tree Hill Domain. The two parks, ; however, new form practically, one' largo recreation ground.
