FALSE DECLARATIONS.
PENSION WRONGLY OBTAINED
MAN PLACED ON PROBATION
That accused had obtained £32 10s by means of false declarations was alleged in the Police Court yesterday, when Frederick Cecil Atnbridgo (Mr. I'order) admitted fivo charges of obtaining money from the War Pensions Board. the charges stated that, on different dates, accused " did present to a pensions officer a false declaration that he was unemployed and did thereby obtain from tho War Pensions Board an instalment ut .to 10s which was not payable." rhiet'-Dotectivo Hammond .said that from August, 1929, until March. 1930, accused had been in receipt of a war pension of 25s and an economic war pension of 30s. He had made a declaration that he was not earning more than £2 a week, but actually ho had been earning £4 a week. In this way ho had obtained a total sum of £32 10s from tho board. Accused was married and had not previously been before tho Court. Mr."Fordcr said all tho money obtained bv accused had been spent on medical attention for his wife, who had been ill. I lis employment had been of a temporary nature, subject to instant termination. ■ Accused had a. position to which Lie could
go. Refusing to grant an application for suppression of accused's name, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, said that his actions were deliberate fraud. After consulting {lie probation officer, Mr. \V. J. Campbell, the magistrate said he would place accused on probation for two years. It would bo necessary for him to refund (lie money according to the direction of the probation officer.
