ONE TREE HILL SCHEME.

MEETING OF RATEPAYERS

Tho 56th and final annual meeting of ratepayers of tho One Tree Hill Road Board district was held in St. George's Church hall last evening, tho Mayor of tho recently-formed borough, Mr. .1. S. Hardwicke, presiding. Mr. W. J, Jordan, M.P. for Manukau, was present.' The annual report stated that a very satisfactory agreement had been made with the, Auckland Firo Board for the protection «of llio district for a period of iivo years. A complete alarm system had been installed at a cost of £555. Tho annual payment to -tho Fire Board is £SOO. As a result, an improved reclassification of tho firo risks in the district had been made by the Firo Underwriters' Association.

'J'he necessity for a reading scheme for the borough was emphasised by speakers. It, was stated that the desired permanent reading works could not. be provided out of revenue hut that, a loan was required, A motion recommending that the incoming council should § prepare a scheme on the lines 'suggested was carried' unani-

mously. The election of members of the new council will be held to-morrow, Heven nominations have been received, for the six seats, the candidates being as follows:—Messrs. R. (}. Chirk, I. -1. Gohlstine. C. L. Sly lie-Id, W. 0. Mulholland (members of the former lJond Hoard), and ,1. Adams, K. W. Aimer and W, I, Hancock.

Polling will bo conducted between D a.m. and 7 p.m. at, booths at, the Chamber of Commerce, Swanson .Street, tho Borough Council offices, Greenwood's Corner, Green Lnno and Penrose. All those on the roll will be entitled lo vote. The first meeting of the Borough Council will be held on Wednesday, May 21.
