COMPETITION BY HAWKERS.
SHOPKEEPERS COMPLAIN.
FEELING AT PAPATOETOE.
A movement has been started in Papatoetoo for a campaign against hawking in the district.
Somo weeks ago the Papntoetoe Welfare League submitted to the Town Board a petition, signed by local shopkeepers, asking the board to enforce the by-laws in regard to hawkers. The police were requested by the Town Board to take action in the . matter.
Shopkeepers maintain that competition by hawkers is unfair as, for a yearly liccnco of £l, any person may peddle goods in the township as regularly a? the butcher or baker calls for his customary orders. Should the movement receive support a meeting is to be convened at an early date.
