AVONDALE ACCIDENT.

CONCLUSION OF INQUIRY.

The inquiry by tho judicial committee of tho Avondale Jockey Club, into the falling of Valley and Set Fair in the Nursery Handicap 011 April 30 was concluded this week. It had been adjourned to secure the evidence of the apprentice G. J. Jones, rider of Valley, who was in hospital. Jones "did not remember anything about the accident. The committee's decision was as follows: " There was no evidenco adduced indicating foul or careless riding, and the judicial committee finds tho accident was caused by Valley getting on to tho heels of Biddy's Boy. Tho occurrence was quite accidental."

JOCKEYS RECOVER

E. LUDLOW AND O. McINALLY.

Tho jockey E. Ludlow, jvho had two ribs fractured in ft fall at the Avondale meeting, was discharged from hospital last Thursday. Although unable to ride work at present, Ludlow hopes to bo in the saddle at the Auckland meeting in Juno.

() Mclnally, whose leg was broken when C'rciua'a King fell at liotorua in February, hits resumed riding work arid will bo in the saddle at tho Taumaruuui meeting a fortnight hence.

BLACK MINT'S SUCCESS

FIRST SINCE LAST AUGUST.

Black Mint's win in tho Nelson Cup yesterday was the first lie hnd scored since last August, when he won the Noagle Handicap at the Danncvirke, spring meeting. Altogether lie has contested 25 races this season. His record last Benson was one win in 29 starts, his only success being nl tho Grand National Meeting at liiccarton in August, 1023. Black Mint's best season was in 102G-27, when he won live times in 2fi starts He likes tho going on the soft side, and possibly yesterday's win may be tho forerunner of others.

PAKURANGA HUNT PROGRAMME

The Pnkur/vngn, Hunt Club baa decided upon the same programme as last year for its annual race meeting, to be held at Ellorslio on August 23. The stake attached to the Pakuianga Hunt Cup will bo I'liOO. tho winner to receive il-100 and a cup valued at £SO, second £IOO. and third £SO.

FUTURE OF SCARAMOUCHE.

Scarnmouche's schooling effort over the steeplechase fences on the Hat at Ellerslie on Thursday was full of promise. He cleared the obstacles brilliantly and the only thing that might tell against him when tried at this class of racing is his lack of slaying ability.
