RELIGIOUS DEBATE.
HISTORICITY OF JESUS. With regard to tho challenge which he has accepted from a rationalist lecturer to debate the historicity of Jesus tomorrow afternoon, the Rev W Lawson Marsh stated yesterday that his attitude appeared to have boon widely misunderstood He is merely concerned that the great number of those interested should know that tho verity and authenticity of the Christian Gospels is in no way threatened by recent rationalist statements. Mr J S Langlcy the visiting rationalist lecturer had" broadcast challenges to clergymen and was making much capital out of the fact that these were not being ac eepted. As a result many people were misunderstanding tho position, and on that account Mr. Marsh took up the chal- , lenge.
