The demand for apples and pears was dull at the Auckland City Markets yesterday, and values for the majority of the classes remained about level with those ruling last week. Hothouse grapes met with a fair market and sold at from Is 3d to 2s 2d per lb. Good quality lemons were scarce and dear. Local smooth tomatoes brought slightly higher rates than earlier in the week. Bananas showed a. further drop and sold up to 20s a case. There was little change in the prices of other lines. The supplies of oranges from Sydney which arrived on Tuesday were soon sold, but a small quantity of Island oranges will arrive today from Wellington. The market was very heavily supplied with all vegetables in season and the demand was fair. Cabbages, pumpkins and kumaras were particularly heavily stocked. The supply of poultry yesterday was heavy, but the demand was keen and prices paid remained on a level with those prevailing last week. Slightly smaller supplies of eggs were received and prices roso to 2s llcl per dozen for first quality special grade hen eggs. This price is only 2d less than at the height of tho markot at Easter.
