Mrs. Vandeer Litt, of New \ork, arrived in Auckland yesterday by the Aorangi on her return to America after a world tour. Mrs. Litt has been travelling in the interests of the Open Door International, an organisation founded to obtain economical' equality for women workers.

The Misses Boresford opened their dancing season with'an afternoon, held in fit. Hall, on Saturday. A great number of guests were present and much interest was taken in the competitions. Mr. Duncan Simpson was the judge for the national dancing, Mr. Sowerby for the ballroom and Mr. C. Robinson for toe dancing. Tea was provided 'by the mothers of the pupils, and music was supplied by Miss May Beresford.

Miss Kibblewhite, a diploma holder of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, gave an interesting address upon New Zealand ferns at a meeting of 'the League of Penwornen. New Zealand had a unique flora, she said, rich in ferns and allied growths. There are 142 species of ferns, covering 35 genera, besides 20 varieties, and there was still a great deal of research in classification to be made The speaker explained that it was not. so much upon the height ol: shape of the fronds that classification depended, butupon the character of the spores and the type of reproductive organs the plant possessed.

At the invitation of Mr. and Mrs. V. Stagg, a children's party and dance was hold in the Town Hall Otorohauga. on I*richly night. There were sorno 250 guests present, inclusive of about 150 children and young people, and the following gave items in costumes: —Miss Margaret Kay, who danced an Irish jig; Miss Nancy Sanders, Scotch reel; Miss Doreen Homer, gipsy tlance; six little children, a chorus and dance. .. Master Alec. Cockburn played n violin solo, and 'music for dancing was plavod by Mrs. A. Iv Cooke, Captain Stanley and Mr. C. Anderson.. Supper was served by a number of ladies, and a thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent.

A vetv pleasant afternoon was spent ]iy the membors of the Ex-Army Nursing Sisters' Association on Saturday at a, reunion held at the Lyceum Club. .
