THE INQUISITIVE PUSS.

This story may sound strange, but it is truo nil the same. I once had a little kitten which I was very fond of. As she grew sho became very inquisitive. This failing cost her her life. Nothing pleased her more than to go to the shed at milking time. When the engine was going she sat watching the belt moving and nothing would coax her away. Wo wondered why she was so interested in this, and at last we found out. Tho belt was joined by fasteners and ttiese had puss puzzled. As the belt moved and tho fasteners came to wliero sho sat she became very daring, and aou Id quickly put out her paw and try to touch them. After a few more tries sho became more daring, and as soon as she spied the formers she would make one leap and land on tho top of the belt. As the belt went round puss went with it. but as soon as the overhead shaft was reached it would throw her violently to the ground. She would be rather dazed and shaken at tho time, but, on recovering back she would go and do the same thing over again. Day after day she did this unless we remembered to lock her up. Sometimes she received a nasty shaking as the shaft threw her off, other times sho managed to jump off before she struck .the shaft. One. night she received an extra shaking and the next morning she was doubled up with paralysis, which must have been caused by all the falls she received. However, she never recovered, and the only kind thing wo could do was to destroy her, but we missed her very much.
