ST. JOHN'S WORT.
The suggestion that St. John's wort might be controlled by heavy grazing when the plants arc young has led to investigations by the Australian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research into the to\ic properties of the weed. As it had already been established that sheep depastured on country infested with (lie weed are subject to dermatitis, tho recent, investigations were concentrated on the effert. immature plants on sheep. These proved that even in the young stages St. John's wort is harmful, and ''able to | vorluce dermatitis. It is also evident that heavy crazing will not eradicate the pest, owing to the plant's deep-rooting habits and the fact that, a small portion of root left in I lie ground will shoot.
