The Onehunga branch, of tho W.C.T.U. met in the Methodist Schoolroom on Thursday. Major Gordon gave an address upon "Parental Control and the Sense of Relieion," the lack of which, she said, made it difficult to deal with young people to-day. A pianoforte duet was played by Mrs. Green and Mrs. Craig.

A morning tea was held in the 'Judor rooms on Thursday, at which tho guest of honour was Miss Lilian Edtrer, formerly principal of PonLadies' College. About 40 of Miss 'Edger's pupils were present. The tables ;were artistically decorated with autumn,'coloured flowers,, and a very pleasant hour was spent in renewing friendships of former days.

The Kumeu branch of the W.C.T.U. held its monthly meeting in the Kumeu Hall this week. The president, Mrs. J. .Wilson gave an interesting address. The Mount Eden Croquet. Club held a yexy pleasant progressive croquet afternoon to augment the funds ot the obstetrical appeal. Mrs. E. H. Mayoress of Mount Eden, spoke on behalf of the effort. Prizes for croquet, given Jjy Mrs Rudd and Mrs. Horton, were won i>y Mrs. Mueller and Mrs. Thomson. [Winners of the consolation prizes were jilijs Teapo and Mrs. Murdoch.

A concert was given at the Epsom Infirmary on Thursday evening, arranged ,by Miss Theo Halpin. on behalf of the Or.phunga branch of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary. Songs and other musical i'ems were contributed by Miss Amy Hmsard, Miss Halpin,' Miss Daphne Higliam. Mr. Garrett and Mr. Geoffrey Laird. The patients also showed their appreciation of Miss Kitty Smallbone s 'dancing.

A most enjoyable tennis party was held "by the Shipping Officers' Guild at the Give Road Tennis Club courts. Among those present were:—Mrs. McGinley, Mrs. iWing, Mrs French. A social evening was held in the Homai Mission Hall. Manurewa, this week to bid farewell to Mrs. A. Guthrie, who is leaving shortly on a, visit to Brisbane. The Rev. Mr. Griffin spoke of the helpful interest Mrs. Guthrie had always taken in the welfare of the district. A musical programme interspersed wifn games entertained the gathering. Songs were given by Madame Frost, Mrs. fiuthrie, Mr. Pearce, Air Gibles and character sketches by Mrs. A. Wrigley and Miss Ruth [Morton.

Mrs. Arthur Griffiths presided at a meeting oi the dramatic circle of the League of Penwomen. The evening s programme comprised the performance of two original plavlets —" Seen from a [Window," written by Mrs. N. G. Levett, a member of tho league, and " Revolt, by Miss Yiolet Spnrling. Other items included the reading of scenes from '' Love's Labour Lost," also of a poem, ''Legend" (Hugh Mcßae), by Mrs. Griffiths, and the playing of a pianoforte Eolo by Mrs. McKirmey.

The. monthly meeting of the Epsom branch of the League of Mothers was held in the Baptist Church hall, Inverness Avenue, on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. J\ •d. Macky presided. An interesting address upon modern Palestine was given by the Rpv. D.
