REGIONAL TOWN PLAN.
FIXING AUCKLAND ZONE.
PUBLIC, INQUIRY ARRANGED.
Arrangements have been made on be« half of the Town-Planning Board for a, public inquiry to bo held in the Auck« land City Council Chambers, commencing on Monday, May 5, to hear evidence from all interested parties to determine the boundaries of 'the region comprising the City of Auckland and surrounding districts.
The chairman of the board, tho Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs, states that although regional planning is concerned with certain phases of town-planning, it is much wider in its scope, and contemplates the preparation of a survey of the natural resources of the area to which the scheme relates and the existing conditions in regard to transportation facilities and other public utilities and services of a regional character. It aiso provides for the preparation of a scheme to secure tho conservation and economic development of the natural resources of the region and tho coordination of local body activities.
Attention is directed by the chairman to sections 6 to 17 of the Town Planning Amendment -Vet, 1929. and tho second schedule. He points out that a region for regional planning purposes may be regarded as a self-contained social and economic unit. It is desired that the evidence of local body representatives should he directed to a definition-of the boundaries of the unit, of which Auckland can be regarded as the focal point. The primary object of the inquiry is to enable the local authorities to acquire the necessary information to enable them to arrive at a decision in regard to the action to be taken for tho definition of tha regional area and tho constitution of a regional committee, in accordance with the provisions of the Town Planning Amendment Act, 1929.
