A fatal accident occurred near Wanganui to-day, Mr. Archibald L. Melville, farm manager, of furakina, being killed instantaneously when a motor-cycle he was riding collided with a • three-seater car. Deceased was riding to attend the Wanganui trotting meeting. His machine struck the left-hand front portion of a car driven by Mr, John Stewart, motor salesman, of Marton, which was being driven from the city.

The collision occurred on the Auck-land-Wellington main highway about a mile from the Wanganui city boundary. Deceased was a single man, aged 27 years. A brother resides at Kakaramea.

DRIVER'S REMARKABLE ESCAPE

A remarkable escape from death was experienced to-day by Mr. Victor Milne, a young man, when a motor delivery van he was driving hurtled over a 20 foot bank and burst into flames.

The accident occurred on a corner and the van crashed through a fence and rolled down the bank. Mr. Milne freed himself from the damaged vehicle in time to escape from burns. He went to a house for assistance and, on returning to the scene, fainted. His condition to-night was satisfactory, extensive bruising being his only apparent injury apart from shock.

Two young Maoris of Waitara were badly cut. about the face when a twoseater car, in which they were travelling toward Te Kuiti, skidded in loose metal on the main highway at Onaero early this morning, jumped a wide ditch at the side of the road and struck a willow tree which fell across the car.

The two occupants of the car, who were aged 25 and 15 years respectively, were conveyed to the New Plymouth Hospital. The youth was the more seriously injured, having received serious facial cuts and abrasions. The car was extensively damaged.

KNOCKED DOWN BY LORRY

INJURIES TO MOTOR-CYCLIST.

.As a result of injuries received when a motor-cycle, he was riding was knocked down by a motor-lorrv near the old Dominion Road tram terminus last evening, John Richardson, aged 60, of 15, Albert Road, Avondale, was admitted (o the hospital. He was suffering from a fracture of flic right leg and head injuries. At a lnte hour his condition was reported as being serious.
