The Department, of Agriculture forecasts that the probable wheat, crop this year will be about 550,300,000 busliels. This is based on reports showing winter wheat nl 77.<1 per cent, of normal on April 1, comparet.l with 82.7 per cent, a year ago. Preliminary reports ami April conditions indicate that for the United States as a whole the abandonment prior to the harvest is likely to be close to the usual average, 11.8 per cent, of the. acreage sown in the autumn. Tim condition of winter wheat in the plains States is said to be about the average, while in the Ohio and Upper Mississippi valleys the conditions are below the average, also in the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Coast, States.
