NEW TAXI FARES.
THREE COMPANIES' RATES.
UNIFORM SCALE FIXED
The new scale of taxi charges, which will come into operation in Auckland next Saturday, will apply uniformly to the cabs owned by the three largest companies, Checker, Chess and Bhck and White. Between them they operate 170 vehicles.
A special rate area has been defined, bounded by Meadowbank Road, Abbott's Way, Wairakei Road, the Harp of Erin, Campbell Road, Royal Oak, Mount Albert Road, Gladstone Road, Carrington Road and Point Chevalier Hall. For trips starting and finishing within this area, but whose middle distance may extern! beyond the boundaries, the charges will be Is a mile for the first two miles, 2s Gd for three miles, and 3s for four and fivo miles. After that, each additional mile will be charged for at the rate of 6d a mile. At present the charge for five milos varies from 2s to 2s 6d.
