PAST YEAR'S REPORTS.

School committees' reports for tho past year are: —

Avondale.—A record increaso in tho roll number is recorded in (ho annual report of the Avondale school. During tho year tho roll number increased to ovor 800. Had it not been for tho opening of tho now Richardson Road School, and the withdrawal of a number of children to the Convent School, tho roll probably would have reached nearly 900. In 1930, however, tho roll had shown a sharp decline, being now about 40 less than it was in April of last year. Tho attendance had beon good, 138 good attendance certificates having beon issued to children who missed not more than five halfdays during tin* year. Eighty proficiency anrl eight competency certificates wore issued. In tho junior national scholarship examination three pupils, Eileen Dubois, Norman Rackham and Burton Turloy, were awarded scholarships, whilo fiyo othors gainod freo places. John Bollard Memorial Scholarships wero also awarded to these three, and also to Tnu lhaka, while another puil, William Weir, won a Rawlings Scholarship. Tho finances showed a credit balance of £55. Meadowbank.—A year ot satisfactory progress is recorded. Proficiency certificates were awarded to 38 standard VI. pupils, while ono competency certificate was gainod. There wero no failures. Tho roll number had increased during tho year and the school advanced a sub-grndo. Tho increase had not been maintained., The financial statement for the year showed a credit balance of £33*
