OBITUARY.

MR. S. F. MEIKLEJOHN,

- The death of Mr. Serjeant Frederick Meildejohn, M.A., aged 28, a master at the Mount Albert Grammar School, occurred on Tuesday. Mr. Meiklejohn was a son of Mr. H. Meiklejohn, of Andrews Road, Henderson. An old pupil of the Auckland Grammar School, Mr. Meiklejohn gained a university scholarship from there in 1919. He studied at the Auckland University College, gaining the John Tinline scholarship, a senior scholarship in English. Taking an active part- in college activities, he was at one time president of the Students' Association and he was a very keen debater. He graduated with honours in English. For the past four years, except for a break of a year, Mr. Meiklejohn has been teaching at the Mount Albert Grammar School. He was a man of marked educational ability. He took an active part in sport and had charge of the school hockey. In 1927 Mr. Meiklejohn acted as lecturer in English at the. University College during the absence of Professor Egerton on leave. At a meeting of the Auckland Grammar School Board yesterday the chairman, Professor A. P. W. Thomas, said Mr. Meiklejohn was a very popular master. It was defided to forward a letter of sympathy to the parents of Mr. Meiklejohn.

MR. W. B. ENTWISTLE. The death occurred yesterday morning, after a brief illness, of Mr. William Rowley Entwistle, of Birkenhead. For the past 20 years Mr. Entwistle had been an engineer on the Birkenhead ferry steamers, and previously he was with the Kaipara Steamship Company, employed on the steamers trading between Helensville and Northern Wairoa. He took an active part in local musical circles, and was a member of the orchestra of the BirkenheadNorthcote Orphans' Club. Mr. Entwistle, who wns 66 years of age, is survived by Mrs. Entwistle, two sons, Messrs Rowley and Henry Entwistle, arid three daughters.

MRS. GERTRUDE HAYDOCK. The death has occurred of Mrs. Gertrude Haydock, of Mount Eden, in her 55th year. She was the daughter of the late Mr. James Ryder, of Manchester, England. In 1904 she married the "late Mr. Edward Haydock, and in, 1906 they came to New Zealand, Mr. Hhydock being for many years instructor of engineering at the Seddon Memorial Technical College. He was responsible for erecting the clock on the Ferry Buildings. Mrs. Haydock is survived by her two sons, Messrs. Bernard and Reginald Haydock, and bjr her brother, Mr., y. Ryder*
