CRASH THROUGH WINDOW.
BUS ACROSS PAVEMENT. ACCIDENT IN CUSTOMS STREET. A plate-glass window in the shop of the Auckland Scale Company, 10, Customs Street West, was shattered by a large motor-bus belonging to the Aard Motor and Tourist Services at about ten o'clock last evening. The bus had landed its passengers outside 4 the Dilworth Building, and was driven across the Queen Street intersection into Customs Street West. It was turning round the far end of the safety zone when it got out of control, mounted the footpath and crashed through the window, finally striking one of the roof supports. The plate-glass of the window was shattered, the frame broken and part of the woodwork supporting the window was also broken. Although a portion of the heavy glass fell inside among the scales and other goods displayed in the window the stock was not damaged. The motor-bus was not damaged extensively and was driven away under its own power. The force of the accident displaced the frame of the door, which swung open and could not be closed again. Some difficulty was experienced in locating the proprietor of the shop, and as the door could not be locked a constable was stationed to guard the premises during the night. While a police sergeant and a constable were examining the damage a cat, evidently asleep inside, was suddenly disturbed and dashed out of the broken glass unhurt.
