MEAT FOR CANADA.
RESTORATION OF DUTIES. ALBERTA BREEDERS' CASE. OTTAWA, March 13. A demand for a revision of the Australian trade treaty so as to restore the duties on meat which were in force before the agreement was negotiated, was urged upon the Dominion Tariff Board by
Alberta sheep breeders. They said the depression in- sheep raising since the treaty becamo effective ihad resultod in a decreaso of 64,000 sheep last year. The breeders were being forced out of business. The chairman of the board, Mr. W. H. Moore, replied that while Alberta sheep showed a decrease other provinces showed increasing flocks. British Columbia was mostly exposed to the effects of the treaty, yet the sheep there shewed an increase. Mr. Moore suggested that the remedy would be a Marketing Act, not a change in the treaty. Canadian mutton should be stamped to distinguish it from the imported product.
