GRATITUDE TO <A \ NURSE;
WEALTHY' STOCKBROKER'S WILL
|\ Generous.. bequests to. a former Red Cross nurse. who tended him in his last illness, and to his servants,, are features of the will of Mr.: Frederick Leonard Govett, of Windlesham, Surrey. Mr. Govett,' a stockbroker, lately, senior partner in Messrs. Govett, Sons and Co., and. for 51 years-a membefr of the' London Stock Exchange, left. £371,789. ■ Miss Lily Marguerite Deakin, who was attached' to the Red Cross in Italy during the war, will receive •a . life interest in over £IOO,OOO during spinsterhood—or £SOO a year for - life' ii she marries—a sura'of £2OOO, .and,-subject to certain specific bequests, Mr.' Govett's household effects.
A relative of .the family described Miss Deakin recently - as a delightful and charming , woman, who had travelled widely,' and added:—"Mr. Govett and his late wife met her' in Italy some years ago, and: became i very much attached to her. 1 • She- became. Mrs.. Govett's companion, and ' was Mr. Govett's constant attendant in his later years.' She nursed him in his last-illness.
"The statement that he adopted her as ■ his daughter is • untrue, - but - she was certainly like a daughter to him."
Mr. Govett also left £2500 to his chauffeur, Mr. Frank James. . " James was formerly , groom .to Mr. Govett's • mother, ■ and, although -he is getting on. in . years," I do : not think he has any intention of retiring, despite'his legacy," •' said Mr. Lionel' Arthur Govett, a London solicitor, who is one of the executors of the, will.' He is• still acting as chauffeur at Lavershot Homestead, where Miss Deakin is living."
Bequests to servants include £SOO each to th 9 testator's cook, Sarah Hill, and his 'head gardener, Frederick Post, and two years' . wages to- each other servant of five years' service in his < employ at the time of his death, - and not, ; under notice. •
Bequests to relatives include £20,000 to ' each of his two > grandsons, and a further £30,000 each on attaining the age of 25. lilr. Govett also left £SOOO to the National Fund for the .redemption of the National .Debt, and £IO,OOO to the rector and .churchwardens of .Windlesham, the income to 'be used for the poor of the parish.
