PRICE-CUTTING ALLEGED.
ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY.
UNION SECRETARY'S COMPLAINT.
[BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
"WELLINGTON", Friday
A complaint was made by Mr. H. E. Swindell, secretary of the Electrical Trade 3 Union, in the course of his remarks at a deputation to the Minister of Labour, the Hon. W. A. Veitcli, yesterday, that vicious price-cutting is being employed in connection with electrical contracts. .-
Mr. Swindell declared that it indirectly affected the operatives engaged in tha trade, who had to "go like slaves" to make up for the cheap prices at which tha ■work was being done. Moreover, constant supervision was necessary to ensuxa against bad workmanship.
"The number of endorsements of licences owing to bad work," he said, "shows that the trade is in an awful state. We want to co-operate with the employers, but. wa can get no redress while that of thinj is going on."
