EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE.
BRIDGE NEAR FEILDING.
FACES OF HILLS MOVED.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN C'OP RESPONDENT. ] NORTH. Friday. There was a. sequel to the severe earthquake which rocked the Feilding district last winter, when at a meeting of the Kiwitea County Council the overseer, Mr. F.' H. Eggers, reported that Haycock's Bridge, near Rewa, demanded immediate attention. The earthquake, which was of great severity in tho locality, had practically shifted the face 3 of tho hills on both sidc.-i of the bridge, with the result that the structure was being slowly crushed between the two hills.
The process had been slow, but a crack in the deck bridge was very distinct. It was now evident that the breaking point in the resistance of the bridgo to pressure would be reached shortly. The council decided to inspect the bridge immediately, with a view to putting in hand' repairs or reconstruction of the bridge, whichever might be considered more advisable.
