THE HAUNTED HOUSE.
Dear Miss Morion.—l am coin™ to fell you of a genuine haunted house. This house is on the Alfristan Road, linlf-a-milo from Manurewa. It is a Hivo-storied liouse, ami not extraordinarily big. The first tenants were seated at the table on Xmas Evo some years ago, when, .suddenly an awful groaning and moaning was heard. Following these blood-curdling noises came tho spund of footsteps, and of a body being dragged downstairs, accompanied by more groans. Tho lady• of the house was prostrated with fear, and was very ill for some weeks. Eventually tho family left the house for moro congenial surroundings. Two or three people havo rented the liouse wince. Between its last tenant and it? present one. who lias just taken possession, 1 hove was a gap of over a year. It is a very nice homo, and with euro could be made beautiful. Xone of the locals will buy the " "Haunted House," however. and there is i>. likelihood of its falling into decay, unless the cause of the mysterious noises is found out. —Your sincere penfrieiul, Hugh Fleming, Grand Vue Road, Manurewa (age It years).
