ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON.

AT HOME AT REMUERA.

The very largo number of guests who attended the At Home given by Mrs. J. F. Ewon, at her residonce in Remuera Roacl yesterday afternoon, spent a very enjoyable time. Though inclined to be showery earlier in the day, the weathei | cleared in the afternoon and the guests were able to wander at will through the beautiful grounds. A centre of interest to all the guests were the dahlia bods at the lower end of the garden. Tall, graceful, and of every conceivable variety colour, these were a truly splendid sight. The other flowers in the garden, beds of bright summer blooms growing in profusion beside winding paths and round a delightful waterlily pond in which goldfish darted to and fro, were also greatly admired. The tennis court was a souice of attraction to many of the guests and also the croquet lawn, which made a delightful picture, surrounded with high banks of flowers, shading from palest primrose to deep orange and flame. Afteinoon tea was served on the terrace, where | small tables wore arranged, covered with deep "orange cloths and decorated with low bowls of orange shaded flowers. Music supplied by an orchestra under the leadership of Mr. Frank Egerton added greatly to the pleasure of the occasion. To receive her guests Mrs. Ewen wore a frock of navy blue and red floral chiffon and a wide-brimmed navy Bangkok hat, trimmed with an osproy. Among those who wore present were. The Countess of Orford, who was in a frock of ficello georgette with a scalloped hem edged with rows of narrow la_ce.
